Web Design
What you can expect as a client of Action Media Design
Experience
After 15 years of experience, I've acquired the programming skills and an eye for design to develop any kind of website you desire. From conservative, clean design to design that makes extreme use of images and color, I build them all. From large database driven websites to a small works of but a few html pages, I am excited to build it.
-And it will be a project I approach with attention to excellence and detail.
Excellence, in Website design is as much about the design's appearance as it is about the underlying code. In all of my projects I strive to perfect both. I am an artist as well as a programmer. In terms of Art, let there be symetry, balance, and logical order so that the design is pleasing to the eye. In terms of technology it must be current, clean and well standardized so that it runs freely on all computers.
Combine professional Artistic design and technical proficiency and you have a website worthy of Excellence.
How I Work
I begin by listening to you.
What my clients tell me about their business is invaluable information. With Action Media Design you get a marketing professional who listens, rather than explain to you how your business should work on the web. Of course, I ask targeted questions and with seasoned experience I will have ideas, but we'll arrive at the solution together. During the creative process I'll learn all I can about how your business works, the details of the product and/or services you offer, I'll want to know about your clients and customers and especially -your Brand. Using all this information we'll develop a website that extends your Brand presence to the World Wide Web and makes it easy for your clients and customers to locate you and immediately identify how your business can satisfy their needs.
Ultimately, I believe my field of expertise is merely a means of communications and that all my clients have a business with a message that needs to reach the world.
Project Phases
The following is the methodology I use in order to structure the build process so that my clients get exactly what they want in a timely fashion and stay on budget. I define product "deliverables" for each phase of the project, while it would be nice to roll out an entire website in one phase, in reality that's bad for both the developer and the client.
Deliverables are useful because 1) they divide the project into a series of logical goals, each with a tangible product the client and developer can review together, 2) they help avoid confusion at the end of the project where expectations haven't been met, 3) they help the developer manage a clients changing needs and wants as the project develops 4) they split the project into a predefined set of deliverable products that the client can approve and take ownership of after each phase of development.
So let's get to it!
Phase 1: Information Architecture
Books have been written on this subject and there are entire careers dedicated to Information Architecture. However, for website development we are primarily concerned with the body of information content your website is to contain (as upposed to graphic design and presentation) and how it will be divided into logical groups so your site visitors can use the information effectively.
The deliverable for information architecture is a text document, or box diagram dividing the website up into logical sections, accounting for how many pages the site will contain, and identifying any unique applications or programs that might be involved.
Finally, the Information Architecture should provide a cost analysis of the website broken down in terms of the number of pages and any unique applicationsor programs involved.
If your website is to be database driven, then information architecture becomes infinitely more valuable and takes on a much larger role in the development process.
Phase 2: Creative Design
Is a picture is worth a thousand words? I think so. Websites that communicate Brand Identity effectively do so using well planned color and imagery. If you think about it, just about every idea or subject matter can be associated with an image and color. Creative is the eye candy!
Phase 3: Production
In the production phase, the assets from Information Architecture and Creative phases of development are merged into a working prototype that will develop over the production phase into the final product for a clients review prior to launching.
Your site will be available for you to preview and inspect online while it is hosted on my development servers. You will be given a special link with user name and password, so nobody can view your site until its ready for the public.
Phase 4: Launch!
At last! A new website is ready to go live! Typical tasks during this last phase of development include, last minute changes and fixes, managing domain names, setting up website email, hosting setup, etc...
Finally, the transfer of files to the hosting server and a fresh set of website backup CD's including all development materials delivered to the client.
